Daily Bible Message

This blog is a daily dose of thoughts from God's word. We read the scriptures to build our faith, hope, and love. This blog is intended to aid us in that quest by allowing us a forum for comments and questions about these daily messages.

Are You A Nathanael Or A Pilate?

John 1:45-46: Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

He did come and see, which is admirable in itself. Contrast Nathanael’s response to Pilate’s towards the end of John’s gospel. They both ask questions.

Nathanael: “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?

Pilate: “What is truth?”

The difference was in their responses. Nathanael got up and actively sought Jesus. He wanted to know the answer. He wanted to see the truth. Pilate had the truth sitting in front of him, and he walked right out the door. He was not interested in getting to the bottom of his question.

How many today ask a question but hope never to receive an answer? I have heard many admit denominationalism is bogus and unhealthy, but rarely will anyone ponder and discuss the solution! Count the individuals who have heard about Jesus. They have heard the Bible is the word of God. Perhaps they have even voiced the questions, “Is this Jesus for real? Is there really a God? Is the Bible His word?” But who actively seeks an answer? Each person’s response determines whether they are a Nathanael or a Pilate. Which am I?
