Daily Bible Message

This blog is a daily dose of thoughts from God's word. We read the scriptures to build our faith, hope, and love. This blog is intended to aid us in that quest by allowing us a forum for comments and questions about these daily messages.

Jeremiah 49 - When a Nation Ditches God

Some Christians think the United States is a "Christian" nation. There is no such thing, in reality. The United States is just as "Christian" as any other nation. That being said, God obviously holds entire nations, entire societies, to a moral standard. Just because everyone is not a "child of God" doesn't mean they aren't judged by God's rules. God's standards are the same for everyone - Christian or heathen. In Jeremiah 49 we see prophecies against Ammon, Edom, Damascus, Kedar and Hazor, and Elam. None of these nations were "God's people" as Israel was. Yet, God held them to a certain moral standard. He warned them and called them to turn away from their sins. Entire societies had gone bad. God was going to punish them.

Some Christians have given up on their own nations. "Who cares what the majority of the people do and believe, as long as there remain a few Christians?" they ask. This does not seem to be the attitude of God. We Christians have the responsibility to preach and teach in this increasingly godless society. If our nation goes too far towards immorality, we have the pattern before us today of what happens to nations that ditch God!
