Did God create the earth?

Did God create the earth in 7 days?

Godless men have examined the evidence in the earth's crust and concluded human beings are the latest achievement of a long process called evolution. We are really no better than the animals around us. We have no more right to this earth than a dog or a cow or a bug because we all came from pond scum.

Some, claiming to be God-fearing and yet wanting to appear "enlightened" in our great age of understanding, have tried to reconcile the Biblical account with current theories of evolution. They came up with a solution: God created the world AND evolution happened. This is called "theistic evolution." The idea is that God started the ball rolling millions or billions of years back and every once in a while introduced something new into creation, but the evolutionary process still occurred. Talk about riding the fence! These people need to be challenged to pick a side - you either believe God created everything or not.

If you read through Genesis 1, you will see no room for the idea of theistic evolution. It has to be forced into the passage.

What did Jesus think about Genesis? Do you remember Matthew 19, when Jesus was discussing marriage, divorce, and remarriage? In Matt. 19:4-5, Jesus says, "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."

When Jesus said, "Have you not read?" He was appealing to the Scriptures (a habit of His, by the way). Where is the Scripture which says God "made them male and female" in the beginning? Genesis 1:26, 27! Where is the Scripture which says, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh"? Genesis 2:24! Jesus quoted from Genesis 1 and 2 in order to prove a point about marriage and divorce.

Notice these two quick points:

(1) Jesus recognized the text of Genesis 1 and 2 as words from Jehovah
(2) Jesus realized the text of Genesis 1 and 2 was applicable to His life in His day and age several thousand years later!

We should follow in our Lord's example and TRUST the word of God for what it says!

God bless,
Nathan
